Heavy punching bags
Heavy punching bags are more advantageous for users than
light punching bags are for a couple of reasons, including:
• More stable – A person who punches heavy
punching bags is going to have a more stable target to punch because
the bag does not move around very much. This allows the person to focus
on his or her workout. On the other hand, lighter punching bags move
around quite a bit each time they are punched. This means that in between
each strike, the puncher needs to wait for the bag to settle back in
place before he punches it again.
• More realistic – For a person who is
a boxer-in-training, it is probably not realistic to think that each
time he punches somebody in the ring, the person being punched is going
to move around the same way a light punching bag does. Most of the time,
a person getting punched will move just slightly, but stand pretty much
in the same place. This is the same thing that heavy punching bags do
when they are punched.
Because the term “heavy” is subjective, it is hard to say
what exactly “heavy” constitutes. Many bags weigh somewhere
around 100 pounds. This weight of a bag gives good resistance, but does
not require the puncher to be able to break through cement in order
to get the bag to move.
People who find that 100 pounds is lighter than they want can find heavy
punching bags that are as heavy as they need them to be.
